Gerwyn Price and could soon be facing each other in . Both players are on the same side of the draw, meaning they will face off in the last four if they each triumph over their respective opponents.

The duo have a storied and heated past over the last 10 years. While much attention has, the numerous confrontations between Price and Van Gerwen will still be well remembered by fans.

They have faced one another on the biggest stages and their battles are always filled with action. And there have been numerous occasions where the drama between the pair has continued away from the oche.

Van Gerwen criticises Price's 'nonsense' threat

Price has always had a contentious relationship with the Alexandra Palace crowd, often being on the receiving end of jeers and boos. This tension reached its peak in December 2022 when he walked onto the stage wearing a large pair of ear defenders during his match against Gabriel Clemens.

Price later hinted at potentially not participating, saying: "I was a bit apprehensive; I didn't know what would happen. I was sat in my house at 6 o'clock [on Sunday] and probably wasn't going to play the tournament."

However, Van Gerwen dismissed this threat, labelling his comments as "nonsense". The Dutchman also added: "With all due respect, Gezzy can also blame himself a little bit for getting all the boos. If you keep doing this to the crowd, then you're going to get it and I keep telling him that."

Price's apology for nearly hitting Van Gerwen

During the 2020 darts season, tensions ran high when Van Gerwen and Price went head-to-head in . The former emerged victorious from a nail-biting match that ended 7-5 in his favour. However, the game is most remembered for Price almost hitting Van Gerwen with a dart.

He had barely finished retrieving his arrows from the board when Price launched his first dart of the leg. It narrowly missed Van Gerwen's head, and while the Dutchman didn't seem too perturbed by the incident, the rest of the darts world was taken aback.

Price immediately apologised for the near miss, but Van Gerwen brushed it off, claiming the ex-rugby player had done the same thing in their previous UK Open Final encounter.

Van Gerwen's ban demand

In response to Price's ear defenders incident, the PDC banned their use entirely. This decision might have pleased Van Gerwen, who previously argued that players should not be permitted to wear them.

Price eventually responded to both Van Gerwen and the news by saying: "I wore the ear defenders once and I won't be wearing them again. It's best left at that if I'm honest with you.

"I'm not a fan of in-ear plugs that Mervyn King wears. I've just got to grin and bear with whatever comes my way like I have the last couple of years, and just play darts."

Handshake snub

Not long after almost hitting Van Gerwen with his dart, Price would go on to lose. In the aftermath, his body language conveyed pure disappointment, while the victor exuberantly celebrated.

The tension was palpable when Van Gerwen sought to give Price a fist bump, only for the Welshman to turn away. An embrace did eventually take place between the pair, but it was an uncomfortable one.

Van Gerwen and Price common ground

As the PDC World Darts Championship soars in popularity, the possibility of the tournament finding a new home overseas has risen, with Saudi Arabia being mentioned as a possible venue. Given his tumultuous relationship with the Ally Pally spectators, it wasn't shocking that Price favoured shifting the venue abroad.

In an Instagram post, Price supported the rumours, writing: "Maybe it's the way forward, less drunken hooligans that aren't fans, causing fights, that turn up once in a blue moon. It spoil/dictates the outcome of the game in what's the most important event of the year for the players."

And Van Gerwen revealed he was also open to the idea when he said: "It will be great, I think. They wanna make sports big in that country. You saw the big boxing games there, the football there. For me, I don't mind where I play."

Sharing autograph hunters stance

The issue of autograph hunting created a rare unity between the rivals in Manchester back in April. Both refused to sign memorabilia despite posing for selfies, with Van Gerwen heard firmly stating "only photographs please" and "I know what you do with them".

Price was also overheard mentioning to a fan: "I won't sign but I will have a picture. I don't sign anything." He later reacted to a video of the encounter in an Instagram post.

He said: "I'm so happy this has been posted. These people are the reason we don't sign things and are the people that spoil it for the real darts fans. What you don't see is hands and bags full of merchandise....and also this guy is filming from a pair of glasses unknown to the players. Goes to show what sort of people are out there."
