Sridevi who passed away in 2018 was one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars of her time. Even the most famous heroes were eager to work with her in films.
Sridevi had earned great respect in the industry and people held her in high regard. Her co-stars also made sure that this respect was never diminished.
Director Pankaj Prasher recently shared memories of Sridevi in an interview explaining how she earned the respect of her male co-actors and praised her personality.
Pankaj Prasher recalled that by the time films like Hawa Hawai, Mr. India and Nagina were released, Sridevi had already become the queen of the film industry. He mentioned that he once went to Film City Studio to discuss some scenes with her, where she was shooting with other actors. It was lunchtime and actors Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Ranjit, and Shakti Kapoor were sitting together enjoying mutton biryani which had come from Rishi’s house. Suddenly, they all stood up as Sridevi entered. It felt like a senior military general had arrived. It was surprising to see how much respect she commanded without asking for it.
Sridevi, born in 1963, began her career at the age of four with the Tamil film Kundhan Karunai. Over time, she became widely recognized for her versatile acting and immense talent. She made her Bollywood debut in 1979 with Solva Saawan but after working with Jeetendra in the 1983 film Himmatwala, her fame skyrocketed.
She later starred in many major films like Chandni, Mr. India, Nagina, Sadma, Chaalbaaz, Laadla, Lamhe, Khuda Gawah, Karma and others. In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded the Padma Shri.
Her last film was Mom, for which she posthumously received the National Film Award for Best Actress.
Sridevi passed away on February 24, 2018 in a tragic accident in Dubai. Her daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, continue to carry forward her legacy.
