He also emphasized how important water security is to Andhra Pradesh’s long-term development.

CM Naidu hailed previous Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) in a statement for being the sole leader to provide Tamil Nadu with five TMC of water via the Telugu Ganga Project. According to a deal reached in front of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh provided water to Tamil Nadu.

He said that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was responsible for starting and finishing 90% of irrigation projects, including the Somasila project.

Speaking on the Polavaram Project, Chief Minister Naidu noted that the Congress Party had proclaimed Polavaram a national project after the 2014 state split. According to the statement, he pleaded with the prime minister to combine the seven mandals that the project will probably impact into Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu has **firmly** maintained that he did not take the oath of office as Chief Minister till this matter was settled, the statement said. After that, an ordinance was authorized in the legislative sessions, signed by the Indian president, and passed.

According to the release, Naidu also praised NTR for being a visionary leader who started irrigation projects to guarantee that there would be water for future generations. Despite having significant rainfall, he pointed out that Uttarandhra areas still struggle with water scarcity because of their poor irrigation systems. In a same vein, droughts are common in the districts of Rayalaseema, Prakasam, and Nellore, which causes instability in agricultural revenues.

He said that since basin states fully use their allotments and upstream states use excessive amounts of water, the Krishna River has unpredictable inflows. The Godavari River, on the other hand, has steady inflows and might help Andhra Pradesh with its water shortage.

Based on statistics from the last 50 years, CM Naidu said that the Godavari River releases 2,989 TMC of floodwater into the sea every year on average. The government intends to redirect 200 TMC of Godavari floods from upstream of the Polavaram Dam to the Banakacherla Regulator at a rate of 2 TMC per day in order to drought-proof the state.
