January 1, Sydney According to Australian icon Glenn McGrath, Mitchell Starc will do all in his power to be fit for the vital New Year’s Test, which begins on January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Starc had back and rib pain throughout the Boxing Day Test. A key component of Australia’s pace attack, the 34-year-old was spotted persevering through the discomfort to assist his side in winning the Boxing Day Test.
“Mitch and the powers to be will decide whether or not he plays. He will be making every effort to be in the center. He is a vital member of this Australian squad and is on par with everyone else when he is playing.
“He has been bowling very good lately. “Hopefully, he has recovered well and can pass this test,” Fox Cricket reported McGrath as saying.
With 15 wickets at an average of 28.73 in four Test matches this summer, Starc has been an outstanding performance for Australia. After the Melbourne Test, his back and rib problems required preventative scans, which cast question on his readiness for the SCG match.
According to reports, Starc’s ability to cope with the discomfort and if team management believes he is well enough to play will determine whether or not he can make it to the series finals.
“Australia’s top team will want to enter the match… On the first day, I hope Mitchell Starc is out there,” McGrath said.
For the Australian cricket community, the fifth Test at the SCG, which is well-known as the Pink Test in support of breast cancer awareness, has particular meaning.
India has to win in Sydney to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which they have owned since 2017, even though Australia leads the series 2-1.
