Kolkata: Amid continuous incidents of infiltrators being caught in Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that she will write to the central government about the doubtful role played by BSF over border security.
“We have news that BSF is helping the infiltrators to enter Bengal through Islampur, Sitai and Chopra. This is being purposely done to malign Trinamool Congress. Previously we were given a list of those who are coming but now we don’t get any list. TMC is not allowing infiltrators. Visas are also not given by us,” said Mamata.
The West Bengal Chief Minister also instructed DG Rajeev Kumar to investigate the matter.
“The DM and SP are not working properly. DG Rajeev Kumar had some information which he had shared with me. Goons are being sent by BSF and it is a blueprint of the central government. The West Bengal police and TMC don't monitor the border. The miscreants come and also torture women,” further added Mamata at her administrative meeting at the state secretariat Nabanna.
TMC national secretary Abhishek Banerjee also attacked BSF and said it is not working and the blame is being given to the state police.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) however nullifies the claims of the Chief Minister. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that the state government should first give the land for the borders.
“600 km border is open and the state government is not giving land for the same. Instead of blaming the BSF the state government should first give land not just for border fencing but also for residential camps for BSF. The state police should coordinate with the BSF. Last year over 1000 illegal immigrants were caught and 900 people were granted bail here,” said Adhikari.
