Kolkata: At a time when ISKCON, Bharat Sevashram terms rejection of bail of arrested monk Chinmoy Krishna Das as ‘unfortunate’, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee says that both West Bengal and Bangladesh share a ‘cordial relationship’.
“We have a good relationship with Bangladesh. People can come here for treatment, but we must be informed. I want peace on both sides of the border,” said Mamata.
Mamata also highlighted the cultural and linguistic similarities with Bangladesh.
TMC national secretary Abhishek Banerjee also attacked the central government for not taking action against the atrocities in Bangladesh.
“If something happens in Bengal, BJP blames TMC for the same. Now why are they not taking proper actions against the crisis? We have cleared our stand that the West Bengal government will support the decision of the central government. The Prime Minister claims that India has reached a new height after 2014. See the condition, a country like Bangladesh is threatening India,” said Banerjee.
Further slamming the atrocities happening in Bangladesh, Banerjee mentioned, “If judiciary doesn’t stay impartial then that country will go down. Central government should talk with the interim-government of Bangladesh to stop the atrocities in Bangladesh. Strict action should be taken against the culprits.
The foreign secretary should have spoken about the visit to Bangladesh in the Parliament. But no one is speaking anything. From the Prime Minister to the Home Minister, Defence minister all are silent. Whatever is happening is a blatant violation of human rights,” further mentioned Banerjee.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister Giriraj Singh who visited Kolkata said that TMC is shedding ‘crocodile tears’.
“Knowing well that if they (TMC) don’t shed crocodile tears then TMC will lose the Hindu votes for which they are making such comments,” added Singh. Incidentally, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari also held a rally to ‘unite’ Hindus.
Meanwhile, ISKCON Kolkata vice president Radharaman Das termed the rejection of bail plea of arrested monk as ‘unfortunate’ and mentioned that a monk ‘doesn’t deserve to be in jail’.
“The hope is that the present lawyers of Chinmoy Prabhu will be able to present their arguments and fight for his cause. We are aware that the previous lawyers representing him had been threatened in various ways,” said Radharaman Das.
However, the present lawyer of Chinmoy Krishna Das mentioned that they will move to the Bangladesh High Court.
Chinmoy Prabhu’s lawyer Rabindra Ghosh who is presently in Kolkata for treatment was unable to get contacted.
Kartik Maharaj of Bharat Sevashram also stated that he is ‘crestfallen’.
“I had some hope that maybe the monk will be released today but the reality is different. Hope the higher courts grant him bail,” added Kartik Maharaj.
