It's the question that has been on every fan's lips for the last few hours: ?

Heavy overnight snowfall in the North West of England had put the game in doubt, but the Reds confirmed shortly before midday on Sunday that the game will go ahead as planned.

A Liverpool Football Club statement issued shortly before midday on Sunday said: "Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions. We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there."

The playing surface inside Anfield was never going to be an issue; it was the improved conditions outside the stadium that were crucial in the decision for the game to go ahead.

Workers outside Anfield were pictured shovelling snow on Sunday morning in a bid to help ensure the area outside the stadium was as safe as possible for supporters to walk on.

Elsewhere in the region, the runway at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, which is around eight miles away from Anfield, was closed for several hours on Sunday morning, but reopened at 10:15am GMT as conditions improved.

A victory for Liverpool will see the team move eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table after the Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton on Saturday.
