Washington [US], January 6: At the Golden Globes’ Golden Gala, which took place at the Beverly Hilton on Friday, American actors Ted Danson and Viola Davis received prestigious honors in front of their colleagues.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the occasion was the first time the organization has held a special ceremony for the winners of its two illustrious honors, the Carol Burnett Award and the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
The award was formerly given out by the organizers during the live broadcast. Among those present were Babyface, Anthony Anderson, Carol Burnett, Meryl Streep, and Jane Fonda.
Mary Steenburgen, Danson’s wife, gave him the Carol Burnett Award and referred to him as her “dream man.” They’ve been wed for over three decades.
Danson made the amusing remarks during his award speech.
“I must confess that my connection with awards has never been clear to me. I become a bit lonely and ashamed if I win. “I feel a little lonely and embarrassed if I don’t win,” he added. “Not tonight, however. Not this evening. Carol, I am delighted to receive this honor. How much it means to me is beyond words. You have filled homes all throughout the globe with so much love and pleasure. You exude compassion. I adore you very lot.
Then, from her place inside the exclusive party, Burnett yelled, “I love you,” to Danson.
“I hope this inaugural evening of excellence is a night that all of us will remember for years to come,” Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes, said during her introductory comments. “Over the last several years, we’ve welcomed change and been receptive to new ideas as we’ve considered how to modernize the Golden Globes. We are enthusiastic about the potential that these changes may bring about in the future as well as what they will bring about in the next year. And that ingenuity is exemplified tonight. Just an opportunity to unite our profession and highlight two remarkable people—no pressure, no envelopes to open.”
Danson thanked his friends, family, and coworkers before remembering his most well-known character from Cheers to complete his remarks.
“As Sam Malone said, I truly am the luckiest son of a bitch I’ve ever met, and Carol, you know what’s wonderful about this award is that every year we are gathered together to celebrate laughter and joy, we will celebrate you, Carol, and we will celebrate all the funny men and women that came before us.”
Comedian Nikki Glaser will be the first woman to host the Golden Globes alone, and the event promises to be a star-studded evening when it airs live on January 5, 2025 (US time).
