Amid HMPV Surge in China, 8-Month-Old Baby Tests Positive For Virus In Bengaluru

Bengaluru: India has detected its first HMPV case in an 8-month-old baby in the city. Karnataka health authorities will send the sample to a lab for further investigation. This comes days after huge crowds were seen at hospitals in, which the neighbouring nation played down as normal winter flu.Later, Ireleased a statement saying that the country was prepared and the situation in China was "not unusual". According to the information, the case was detected in an eight-month-old baby. The family or the child has no travel history, and the infant is currently being treated at a private hospital in Bengaluru. The family is Yelahanka in the northern part of Bengaluru The health department has maintained there is nothing to be alarmed about and that this is not the first case, as 0.8 % of the Indian population has seen the infections. As of now, there is no clarity if this strain has anything to do with China.The Central government is yet to confirm the case. Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao will hold an emergency meeting with the Health Department officials at 12.30 pm regarding precautionary measures in the wake of the suspected HMPV virus case.
