Family doctors are the ones we place our trust and faith in. There was one personality who several of Bollywoods actors trusted when it came to delivering their little ones. A pioneer in gynaecology Dr. Rustom P Soonawala passed away at the age of 95 on January 5 2024. Also known as Btowns favourite gynaecologist he was the man behind delivering babies of the Kapoor clan. After battling prolonged illness the Padma Shri awardee left for heavenly aboard with a void behind him. Dr Soonawala was not just famous for being a celebrated name by the actors but also because of his contributions and one major invention in the field. Several of Bollywood babies have been delivered by the same doctor. In 2016 Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan welcomed their firstborn Taimur Ali Khan and there was lot of chatter around the name and also the doctor. Dr. Rustom Soonawala was also responsible for delivering Kareena Kapoor and her sister Karisma Kapoor too. These are not the only babies he delivered in the Kapoor khandan. Ranbir Kapoor and Raha were too delivered by him. According to report by Bollywood Shaadis he also brought Vamika Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohlis daughter into the world with his hands. Dr. Rustom Soonawalas one of the significant contribution was the invention of polyethylene IUD in the 1960s. This is a device that is used for birth control and was a safer alternative at that time. In 2015 the obstetrician and gynaecologist had a biography published written by Rashmi Uday Singh a well-known food critic and his former patient. She once shared that the doctor once rushed to assist a baby after attending his best friends funeral. It took me five years to write (the) biography but I had been his patient for 40 years. He delivered my son did my hysterectomy and was the kindest most caring doctor she one said as quoted by TOI. He was regarded humble be it for the star studded patients or the underprivileged ones too. Dr Soonawala had retired from surgery years ago but still worked offering consultation. He was at Breach Candy Hospital where his son Dr Feroz Soonawala currently works.
