Beijing: According to Xinhua, which cited regional disaster relief officials, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that slammed Dingri County in Xigaze City, which is part of the Xizang Autonomous Region, at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday (Beijing Time) left 32 people dead and 38 injured.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, the earthquake’s epicenter was 10 kilometers deep and situated at latitude 28.5°N and longitude 87.45°E.
There were also reports of house collapses in Tonglai Village, which is in Changsuo Township of Dingri in Xigaze, also called Shigatse, according to Xinhua.
In the meanwhile, Xizang, in the Tibet Autonomous Region, had a number of aftershocks on Tuesday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). At 6:35 AM (IST), an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck Xizang, 10 kilometers below the surface.
With the first aftershock of magnitude 4.7 occurring at 07:02 am IST and the final aftershock of magnitude 4.3 occurring at 09:11 am IST, the Xizang area recorded seven aftershocks.
During this time, the area had aftershocks of magnitudes of 4.5 at 08:49 IST, 4.8 at 07:44 IST, 4.9 at 07:29 IST, 5.0 at 07:13 IST, and 4.9 at 07:07 IST.
Residents were also compelled to leave their houses and relocate to open areas as a result of the earthquakes at the Nepal-China border. So yet, no casualties have been recorded in these places.
Meera Adhikari, a resident of Kathmandu, told ANI, “I was asleep when the earthquake occurred. I assumed my toddler was moving the bed since it was trembling. I didn’t really pay much attention, but I assumed it was an earthquake because of the window’s shaking. After that, I quickly summoned my kid, left the home, and arrived in the open space. I’m still in awe and trembling with dread.”
Biplov Adhikari, a resident of Kathmandu, said, “While using the restroom, I became aware that the door was trembling. It was an earthquake, it turned out. Then I quickly descended to the open area. In addition, my mother kept phoning me to leave the home.
Authorities said that tremors were also detected in the Sheohar region of Bihar.
