JAGATSINGHPUR: Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo stated here Monday that the state government has issued a relief package of Rs 291 crore to compensate farmers who lost crops owing to last month’s unseasonable rains.
“The welfare of farmers and the growth of agricultural operations across the state are priorities for the administration. After launching a state-of-the-art rice mill in Balikuda, Singh Deo said that the Rs 291 crore compensation package for farmers will be paid out as soon as possible.
The rice mill, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 50 crore using cutting-edge Japanese technology, would help with the region’s distressed sales problem. It is anticipated that it would provide around 300 locals work possibilities.
The rice mill’s opening, according to the deputy chief minister, has satisfied a long-standing request from nearby farmers. Farmers will be able to process their paddy locally thanks to the facility, increasing their income. The mill will shortly start test milling.
According to sources, local farmers are compelled to sell their excess harvest to dealers at reduced rates after using up their procurement allotment, even though Jagatsinghpur consistently records record-breaking paddy output. The problem of distressed sales had been made worse by the lack of a rice mill. Paddy will be gathered from farmers at a fair price once the rice mill at Balikuda is up and running. Better profits for farmers would be ensured by processing and exporting the obtained paddy.
Among those in attendance were district collector J Sonal, Jagatsinghpur MLA Amarendra Das, and Minister of Skill Development and Technical Education Sampad Swain.
