After a five-year hiatus, the Duchess of Sussex—Meghan Markle—returned to social media at the beginning of 2025. And now, in a new post on social media, Meghan has shared the heartbreaking news of the passing away of her beloved pet dog, Guy. Remembering Guy, whom she rescued 10 years ago, Meghan shared some bittersweet moments of her pet and shared that she has "cried too many tears to count."

All about Meghan Markle's pet dog Guy

In a long social media post, Meghan shared that it was roughly 10 years ago when she rescued and adopted a beagle in Canada, whom she called Guy. Recalling why she named the beagle so, Meghan shared, "In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up….and fell in love. They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him ‘Guy’. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for."

For the unversed, before getting married to Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan was an actress and was also quite popular on social media. However, after getting married into the UK royal family and becoming a senior member of the British monarchy, she followed the royal protocol of not having a personal account on social media. And so, she had quit Instagram.

Remembering her beloved Guy, Meghan further shared that back then she had posted many pictures of him on social media and how he has been an integral part of her life for many years. "If you followed me on Instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him - and on The Tig too. He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.

"He endured a terrible accident shortly before I moved to the UK which had him undergoing surgeries for several months and unable to leave the clinic. Doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr Noel Fitzpatrick said he could do it. H and I would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy as he recovered in Surrey for months on end.

"I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO, our vets now, and my friends and community: Thank you for loving him so," she shared.

In 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry officially stepped down from their position as senior members of the royal family, and now Meghan is back to social media. And with her new show 'With Love, Meghan' releasing this January, it seems that she is reviving her career on television and carving a niche for herself. The Duchess also shared that her fans will see her late pet dog, Guy, in her show soon, and it will reflect what an important role he played in their lives. "Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too," she said in her post.

Meghan also said that she has been grieving the loss of her beloved pet dog for some time, and it's been difficult for her-- a pain that many pet parents would agree with. "I have cried too many tears to count- the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too. Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know," Meghan said in her emotional post for Guy.

The Duchess also shared a video of some heartfelt pictures of her, Price Harry and their children spending some special moments with Guy. She also urged people to adopt rather than buy pet dogs.
