A "slurring" dad punched and kicked his sister during a horror attack in which he said he "couldn’t wait until she dropped down dead", a court has heard.
Christopher Parker, 41, hit his sister Joanne Taylor at her home in Ingleby Barwick, Stockton-on-Tees, in 2022 after she fell to the bottom of her stairs. Mr Parker had been staying with her for around 18 months at the time, and claimed to have "elbowed her as she was going upstairs" and fell.
But his sister claimed he started kicking her after she fell, with the court seeing messages between her and Parker's ex-wife in which Ms Taylor describes being kicked and punched, adding her brother pulled her hair. Body camera footage captured her accusing Parker of "slapping her face, hitting her off the bannister".
Teesside Live reports that during a hearing at Teesside Crown Court, Parker, of Barwick Lane, in Yarm, Stockton, claimed his sister had followed him into the kitchen December 22 and 25, 2022, and described her as intoxicated while arguing with him as he went upstairs. He further claimed to have elbowed her, causing her to tumble to the bottom of her stairs.
But Judge Richard Bennett outlined messages between Ms Taylor and Parker's ex-wife in which his sister told of her suspicions he was the one who had been drinking. She claimed Parker had hit her and said he "couldn’t wait until she dropped down dead". Parker's ex-wife then messaged to say she was picking up one of her children.
In further message sent at 12.13am, Ms Taylor said Parker had kicked, punched and pulled her hair, adding she was left with "significant swelling to her right eye". The message prompted Parker’s ex-wife to advise her to call the police. Further body-worn camera footage showing the moment Ms Taylor recounted the incident captures her testimony that her brother was kicking her.
She said: "I'm not bothered about my eye and mouth. It's more my back, it's where he was kicking me.” Ms Taylor added Parker was also "screaming at me to get back up". Police also asked her if she was frightened, to which she replied: "Not really tonight, I have been before."
During evidence, it was heard that Parker had said he "kicked f*** out of her", a statement the defendant later claimed was said in a "sarcastic way". Judge Bennett said Parker was "slurring" his words during the attack, having drunk Jack Daniels before hand, adding he had a "selective memory” and “at times untruthful”.
He also brought up a previous occasion in which Parker gave "evasive evidence" during a Newton hearing at the Middlesbrough court where he was appearing on charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The judge ruled that Parker was guilty of assaulting his sister, and was "under the influence of something at that time and lost temper".
He told Parker "you will be going to prison", with a sentence set to decide his fate on February 6.
