Until now, Facebook had been doing fact-checking through a third-party program. This program will be shut down after Zuckerberg's announcement. Zuckerberg said that fact-checkers are too politically biased, and in the US, trust has been lost rather than gained.

Meta, the parent company of social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, has made a big change. Social media company Meta has made a big announcement in its content moderation policy. The company has said that it is closing its third-party fact checking program in the United States. Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has given information about this by posting on social media.

Users will do fact checks.

Earlier, the company used to decide which news is true and which is false. For this, it used to call other people and take help from third parties. But now Meta has changed this method. Now Meta wants users to decide which news is true and which is false. For this, Meta is starting 'Community Notes'. In this, users can give their opinion about any news and say whether they think the news is true or false.

What is 'Community Notes'?

Until now, Facebook was doing fact-checking through a third-party program. After Zuckerberg's announcement, this program will be closed and replaced by Community Notes. This feature is currently available on X. In this, users will check the veracity of any false information. The reason for this change is that Meta has said that many mistakes have been made in the third-party fact-checking program in the past. Many times, even true news has turned out to be false. Therefore, the company now wants Meta users to decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong. For these reasons, the third-party fact-checking program has now been closed.

Zuckerberg said that fact-checkers are too politically biased, especially in the US, and have lost trust rather than gained it. In announcing the program's closure, Zuckerberg spoke about the many complaints about third-party fact-checking programs, which Republicans and former owner Elon Musk have often spoken out about.

Zuckerberg seeks reconciliation with Trump

This decision by Meta is being seen as Zuckerberg's attempt to reconcile with Trump. In fact, Trump has been criticizing Meta for a long time. Trump has accused Meta of being biased. In view of this, Zuckerberg has recently donated to Trump's inaugural fund. Apart from this, he has also given positions to Trump's allies in the company. Therefore, now everyone's attention is focused on whether Zuckerberg and Trump will reconcile.
