Neerja Sethi an Indian-origin woman co-founded Syntel a US-based IT consulting and outsourcing firm. Before launching the company with her husband from a flat she worked at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). According to Forbes as of January 8 2025 Neerja Sethis real-time net worth is estimated to be $1 billion. In 2024 69-year-old Neerja Sethi was ranked 27th on Americas Richest Self-Made Women list and 2692nd on the list of The Richest People in the World. In 1980 Desai and his wife Neerja Sethi founded Syntel an IT consulting and outsourcing company in Troy Michigan. They began their company from their apartment in Troy Michigan. The couple living in a small apartment in Michigan shared big dreams and a vision for something of their own. Pooling their savings they took a leap of faith investing around Rs 16000 to start Syntel a venture that would eventually grow beyond their wildest expectations. During its first year Syntel generated a modest USD 30000 in sales. Yet by 2018 the company’s growth had transformed it into a major player leading French IT firm Atos SE to acquire Syntel for an impressive USD 3.4 billion (approximately Rs 28690 crore today). As per Forbes Sethi got an estimated $510 million for her stake. Sethi who had served as an executive at Syntel since 1980 did not join Atos after the acquisition. Sethi met her husband in the U.S. while working at the pioneering IT firm Tata Consultancy Services which they later sought to emulate. Speaking of her educational qualification Neerja studied mathematics at Delhi University. Later she completed her MBA in operations research from Delhi University. Furthermore she earned a masters degree in computer science from Oakland University in the US.
