New Delhi: Team India is worried about Jasprit Bumrahs injury during the 5th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney. The star pacer could bowl only 10 overs before back spasms sent him to the hospital for scans. He did not bowl at all in the second innings which has raised further worries. Reports indicate that Bumrah might be out of action for as long as six months which could potentially keep him out of key events such as the Champions Trophy 2025 IPL 2025 and the England tour.
Speaking with The Times of India former BCCI strength and conditioning head Ramji Srinivasan maintained that Jasprit Bumrah is a luxury product that needs to be handled carefully. He recommended the selectors must send him out of the Champions Trophy 2025 team in case there was the slightest fear for his fitness.
Bumrah is a treasure and he should be handled with care. A Champions Trophy is not the end of the world. If there is the slightest doubt he shouldn’t be in the squad. Five back-to-back Test matches isn’t something he has ever played in his cricketing career Srinivasan said.
Srinivasan said if it is merely back spasms then Bumrah should be fit. He however does not believe the injury is anything to do with stress that is a side effect of too much cricket. In fact Bumrah could miss one to six months of action if it is between a Grade 1 to Grade 3 stress injury.
I agree that if it is only spasms he should be fit. In fact he might be feeling alright even before he boarded the flight back home. But I am not so sure about it. The injury is related to stress which is a direct result of playing too much cricket. If it is anything between a Grade 1 to Grade 3 injury related to stress fracture it can take up to one to six months of recovery added Srinivasan.
