The Yogi administration has made great efforts to ensure that Prayagraj is clean and green for the millions of devotees who are anticipated to arrive in the run-up to Mahakumbh 2025. To guarantee clean air and a healthy environment, dense trees have been established at many points across the city.

Over the last two years, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation has established many oxygen banks using the Japanese Miyawaki technology, which have now grown into verdant woods. These initiatives are vital to environmental preservation since they have improved the air quality in addition to increasing the amount of flora.

The “Greenery Guru,” Dr. N.B. Singh, a former professor of botany at Allahabad Central University, emphasized how urbanization is contributing to increased pollution and heat. He underlined that the Miyawaki approach is a great way to overcome these difficulties.

Using this technique, thick woods develop quickly, which helps to lessen the summertime temperature differential between day and night, Dr. Singh said. In addition, these woods increase soil fertility, increase biodiversity, and provide homes for birds and animals. Large forests created using this method may also reduce temperatures by 4 to 7 degrees Celsius, which has major positive effects on the environment.

Using the Japanese Miyawaki approach, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation has planted trees at over ten places around the city, spanning 55,800 square meters during the last two years. A total of 1.2 lakh seedlings have been planted in the Naini Industrial Area alone.

In Prayagraj, the Miyawaki project started off small in 2020–21 and has since expanded greatly. With the planting of 119,700 seedlings of 63 species across 34,200 square meters in the Nevada Samogar sector of the Naini Industrial Area in 2023–2024, the program achieved a significant milestone.

previously notorious for its unpleasant stench and unhygienic circumstances, this region was previously teeming with industrial garbage. Today, it is a flourishing green park.
