Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has ordered a judicial inquiry into the stampede incident in Tirupati. Six devotees died and many others were injured in this tragic incident. The Chief Minister said that for the negligence of the administration, two officers including a DSP have been suspended, while three senior officers including the District Superintendent of Police have been transferred.

Expressing grief over the incident, Naidu said that lapses were found in the administrative and monitoring mechanisms in Tirupati, which needed to be rectified. He announced an ex-gratia of ₹25 lakh to the families of the deceased and ₹2 lakh to the injured.

The stampede occurred during ‘Vaikuntha Dwara Darshanam’ at Lord Venkateshwara Swamy temple on Wednesday night when a large number of devotees were trying to get tickets for darshan. The incident took place near MGM School in Bairagi Patteda area of ​​Tirupati.

After this accident, the Chief Minister visited Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) to inquire about the well being of the injured. He spent about 90 minutes in the hospital and met each of the injured and heard their problems.

The Chief Minister said that the previous government had changed the system of issuing tokens, which led to such situations. He indicated improvements in this system and instructed the administration to increase vigilance.
