After marriage, her husband Neeraj and her in-laws started harassing her for dowry. After becoming suspicious, the police started interrogating Neeraj Jha and his family members. The body of deceased Aparajita was recovered from under the bridge of Katari river in Rajganj police station area of Dhanbad district. Police have arrested four accused in this case, which include deceased Aparajita's husband Neeraj Jha, her mother-in-law Shobha Devi and four others.
According to the family members of deceased Aparajita, her in-laws became furious due to not getting a car as dowry. He often beat and tortured his daughter.
