Aligarh: After receiving a bomb threat via email on Thursday, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) administration and law enforcement agencies moved quickly.
A comprehensive search was conducted around the campus in response to the email, which demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh.
According to Circle Officer Abhay Kumar Pandey, once university authorities informed the police about the threat, a bomb disposal unit, dog squad, and cyber teams were sent in to look into the email’s source.
“The university authorities notified us about the bomb threat letter. The dog squad and bomb disposal team were sent out right away, and the police conducted a thorough search of all remote areas of the campus. The origin of the email is also being looked into by the cyber experts,” he said.
To now, no suspicious items have been found during the search operation, which concentrated on combing important parts of the campus.
Professor Mohd Wasim Ali, the proctor at AMU, gave his assurance that all required measures are being taken by the authorities to guarantee the safety of the staff and students.
“The police have been notified of the bomb threat letter, and they are now conducting an investigation. We are still unsure about the sender’s identity. A ransom demand of Rs 2 lakh is also included in the email,” he said.
While the issue is being investigated, police and the university administration are collaborating to ensure the safety of the personnel and students.
Authorities have urged instructors and students to exercise caution and notify the authorities right away if they see any unusual behavior.
