Born in an ordinary family of Rajasthan, Ravindra Kaushik had parents and a brother in his family. Kaushik was very interested in theater since childhood. Once during his theater performance, RAW caught his eye. After which the story of his becoming 'India's greatest spy' started. But the story of why the RAW members were impressed by his acting during theater is also quite interesting. Actually, his mono-act in which he was playing the role of an Indian Army officer. The story was – after being caught by the Chinese army, he refuses to give important information to India. RAW officials were very happy with his performance. And from there the story of his becoming a spy began.

After being selected by RAW, he was given rigorous training for 2 years. The year 1975, when he was sent to Pakistan for the first time. His job was to send important information from Pakistan to India while remaining undercover. RAW (R&AW) sent him to Pakistan in the name of 'Nabi Ahmed Shakir'. But the story does not end here.

After reaching Pakistan with the fictitious name 'Nabi Ahmed Shakir', he first took admission in the 'Law University' of Karachi. After successfully graduating from there, he got a job as a commissioned officer in the Pakistan Army. He later also got promotion to the post of 'Major' in Pakistan Army. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was pleased with his work and called him 'Black Tiger'. Ravindra Kaushik also married a local girl in Pakistan. He also became the father of a daughter. From 1979 to 1983, he sent important information from Pakistan. Due to which RAW got a lot of help in strengthening India's defense strategy. His life was going quite smoothly, but then came that fateful year of 1983 when everything changed.

In the year 1983, when Indian spy Inayat Masih was caught by the Pakistani Army while crossing the border. He revealed the secret of Ravindra Kaushik during interrogation by Pakistani Army. Kaushik was arrested on charges of espionage and put in Multan jail. Ravindra was sentenced to death but the Pakistani Supreme Court reduced his sentence to life imprisonment. He died of a heart attack in the year 2001. While reading the letter written by Ravindra, his brother told that his brother (Ravindra Kaushik) wrote, 'Is this what those who sacrifice for a big country like India get? It is known that the Indian government did not do anything for his release, it just left him to his fate.
