Youth Abandoning Condoms : Condom is no longer a word that causes hesitation. Its use reduces the risk of diseases caused by unsafe sex such as AIDS. This is why the use of condoms is being promoted all over the world. Still, condom use among youth is declining, and this is a concern. This information has come out in the report of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The reasons for the decline in condom use are being attributed to pornography, platforms like OnlyFans, and natural family planning. Sarah Pratt, sexual health teacher at the Global Youth Organization (YMCA), says, "Some boys do not use condoms because they do not see their use in porn videos." He also says that due to lack of sex education, youth do not use condoms. They do not understand that using condoms is the easiest way to protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
WHO recently conducted a survey in 42 countries of Europe and the Middle East. In this, 2,42,000 teenagers aged 15 years were asked questions on the use of condoms. The survey found that the percentage of boys who had used a condom the last time they had physical relations with someone was 70% in 2014, which has now come down to 61% in 2022.
According to the report, condom use has also decreased among girls. The number of girls who used condoms or contraceptive pills has decreased from 63% to 57%. Along with this, the use of emergency contraceptive pills is also decreasing.
The WHO survey also found that between 2014 and 2022, 26% of the girls who were taking contraceptive pills the last time they had sex, now their percentage has come down to 15%. Additionally, 33% of teenagers in lower middle class families did not use condoms, while this number was up to 25% in upper class families. WHO has appealed to the youth to use condoms during sex, so that sexual diseases and unwanted pregnancies can be avoided.
