Thane: In a shocking case of medical negligence a patient at the government-run -run Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital, Kalwa, was given blood of the wrong group.

Fakrunissa Khan (33) was admitted to the hospital for a hysterectomy operation. On Monday the doctor concerned recommended a blood transfusion. But instead of giving her AB-positive blood, the staff gave her O-negative blood.

Her cousin Eram Sheikh told FPJ "Within ten minutes of the blood being given Fakrunissa realised something wrong. She immediately took video shots and found that blood meant for another patient was being given to her. She raised an alarm and the transfusion was stopped immediately. This is sheer negligence on the part of the staff. We have demanded an explanation."
The staff told her that the doctor concerned would come tomorrow morning and will be questioned. The police are being alerted. The hospital administration did not respond to queries from FPJ.
