According to Dimsum DailyChan’s manager Lisa Kan explained the decision: “After closely following the news and discussing the situation, we decided it is not worth risking the safety of fans and their families traveling to Thailand for the concert.”

“We would rather look for a more suitable time to hold the event,” Kan added. “We understand that many Thai locals and overseas Chinese are very disappointed by this cancelation, and we sincerely apologize. We hope to return in the future.”

Chan’s management agency Shanghai Sunfan Culture & Media Group echoed this sentiment in an official statement:

“Considering the recent safety concerns for Chinese citizens and fans traveling to Thailand, we have made the cautious decision, after discussions with Eason, his management team, and the local organizers, to cancel the upcoming concert at IMPACT ARENA in Bangkok,” the statement read. “We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The agency also confirmed that ticket refunds will be issued within 10 working days of the announcement.

Wang, best known for his role in “Ip Man 3” and also by his stage name Xing Xing, arrived in Thailand on Jan. 3 after responding to a job advertisement. From Phuket, he was transported by a job brokerage company to Chai Nat, a province in central Thailand, and later to Mae Sot, a district in Tak Province near the Thai-Myanmar border. Shortly after, Wang lost contact with his relatives and girlfriend.

After being rescued on Jan. 7, Wang recounted being forcibly taken across a river into Myanmar, where armed individuals transported him to a house with at least 50 other Chinese nationals and people from other countries. He described how everyone there was forced to shave their heads and undergo scamming training through text messaging over three days. However, he had not yet begun training for phone scams.

Thai police have since determined that Wang was a victim of human trafficking, according to Hongxing News.

Chan, 51, is one of the most popular and influential singers in both Cantopop and Mandopop. He ranked third in Spotify’s Global Top Mandopop Artists of the Year for 2023 and 2024.

He also holds the record for the most nominations and wins in the “Best Male Mandarin Singer” category at the Golden Melody Awards, presented by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, with nine nominations and three wins.
