Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd (TEPL) a subsidiary of Tata Sons has achieved a significant milestone by scaling up its iPhone production in 2024. The company now contributes approximately 26% of the iPhones made in India according to a report by Business Standard. Tata Electronics iPhones production  TEPL accelerated its operations after acquiring Wistron’s iPhone facility in Narsapura Karnataka for $125 million in October 2023. The Narsapura plant’s annual production surged to over Rs 40000 crore in 2024 marking a 180% increase compared to the previous year. Exports also soared growing by 125% to reach Rs 31000 crore. In response to this growth the company expanded its workforce by 63% increasing headcount from 19000 employees in 2023 to 31000 in 2024. Setback and Recovery Despite a significant setback due to a major fire at its facility near Hosur in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district in September 2024 TEPL quickly rebounded. The fire which caused severe damage took multiple days to extinguish. However the company has since ramped up production to meet demand. TEPL Commitment To Social Responsibility TEPL is committed to creating a positive socio-economic impact particularly in the Krishnagiri district where it focuses on hiring 85% women in its workforce. The company actively supports the local community through initiatives in health hygiene and education. As a leading player in India’s electronics manufacturing sector TEPL specializes in producing high-precision components for large-scale customers. In September 2024 the company signed a landmark agreement with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan to establish India’s first semiconductor fab in Gujarat. This collaboration will see PSMC provide expertise in design construction licensed technologies and engineering support further solidifying TEPL’s position as a key player in Indias electronics and semiconductor industry.
