After several delays Kangana Ranauts film Emergency is finally set to hit the big screens on January 17 2025. Ever since the trailer of the film was released it has raised several eyebrows. Now as the movie approaches its release date it is reported that Kanganas movie will not be released in Bangladesh due to the strained political relations between the neighbouring countries. Emergency is based on the life of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The movie delves into the turbulent period during which the country faced the Emergency declared in India in 1975 by then PM Indira Gandhi. According to a source close to the matter “The decision to halt the screening of Emergency in Bangladesh is tied to the current strained relations between India and Bangladesh. The ban is less about the content of the film and more about the ongoing political dynamics between the two nations. The movie also explores the involvement of Indira Gandhi’s government in the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence and the support provided to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman often regarded as the Father of Bangladesh who holds a significant place in history. Rahman who famously referred to Indira Gandhi as Goddess Durga remains a central figure in this narrative. The film further sheds light on the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by Bangladeshi extremists. As per reports this could also be one of the reasons for the film being banned in Bangladesh. Coming to the films cast apart from Kangana Ranaut the movie also features Anupam Kher Shreyas Talpade Ashok Chhabra Mahima Chaudhry Milind Soman Vishak Nair and the late Satish Kaushik in key roles. Emergency arrives at a pivotal moment for Kangana whose career has faced a series of box-office setbacks including her most recent release Tejas (2023).
