Delhi’s probable squad for the 2025 Ranji Trophy could include, senior India batsman Virat Kohli, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana since they could not one hundred percent confirm the international trio owing to official commitments with the team. The trio is a part of the tour team that lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 in 2024-25.

Their names made it 38 international category qualifiers as DDCA gave their official probable list. However, a hook was put under ‘International Players’ with ‘availability’ cautioning the cricketers, as the release of possible players would be judged ‘subject to their availability’.

The release said: “The aforesaid international players are subject to availability,” the DDCA release read.

Players were also summoned to undergo physical testing on January 10 and whether or not the trio attended would have to be seen.

As the country failed miserably in their last-two-Test series, authorities noted the concern that the playing only six out of the last 10 Tests really hurt the Indian teams, including Kohli and Pant once played in the 2012 and 2017-18 seasons of the Ranji Trophy, respectively.

In the morning, Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai team, was practicing with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team but it has not yet been told whether he will participate in the red-ball tournaments or not, as not played for the red ball since 2015-16.

After that, the Cricket Association, Delhi, invited Kohli to catch up. They want him to become as inspired as the likes of Mumbai cricketers when it comes to playing for Delhi.

“The idea being Virat to take a cue from the Mumbai cricketers and play for Delhi in domestic cricket whenever he is available,” Ashok Sharma, Secretary, DDCA, has been quoted as saying by The Indian Express on Tuesday. “There has always been a culture in Mumbai to make all Indian players available for Ranji matches when available. North, and particularly Delhi misses it.”

“BCCI has also specified that players will have to participate in domestic cricket. So, according to me, Virat and Rishabh should play at least one game, but I don’t think they will,” Source added.

Also, head coach Gautam Gambhir made a comment after the defeat in Australia in Test series; according to him, ‘Everything’ wants to play domestic cricket, as he believes if players do not give due importance to it, they would never deliver what desire.
