Aston Martin are said to be so confident they can convince to quit they are telling potential sponsors that the Dutchman will definitely sign.

Four-time champion Verstappen has said on many occasions that he expects to retire from the sport young. His current Red Bull contract runs until the end of the 2028 season, when he will be 31, and he has said he may never sign another contract with any team.

But could test his resolve. Lawrence Stroll is a long-time admirer of the Dutchman and wants to bring him into the fold to drive cars designed by in the hope it will be the formula for success in his desire to turn the -based squad into perennial title contenders.

According to the , the deal they are preparing to offer Verstappen will be worth around £1billion, making it by far the most lucrative ever extended to a driver in F1 history. But an Aston Martin F1 team spokesperson "categorically" denied the story and its details when approached by Mirror Sport.

Verstappen is already the highest paid driver on the F1 grid with a £50m base salary which is matched only by Ferrari deal. And performance bonuses over the last four seasons in which he has won dozens of races and the drivers' title every year have further boosted his massive income.

But his current Red Bull compensation pales in comparison to the offer on the table from Aston Martin who are willing to pay a huge amount to finally tempt Verstappen to make the move to the Silverstone-based squad. And the report claims Aston are so confident that they will get their man that commercial chief Jefferson Slack is already telling potential sponsors that the 27-year-old will join.

The Mail quotes a source as saying: "Jefferson has been going around saying that Max is going to be joining Aston Martin. It may be a ploy, adding extra value to the deal he wants to do, but bringing Max in also makes perfect sense. They have signed Adrian Newey on £20m-a-year as the greatest car designer of all time, and Lawrence won't let that be the extent of it.

"He has said he wants to win the title, and he won't let anything stand in his way. He wants to end the dominant era headed by [Red Bull's] and [Mercedes'] ."

"Adrian is believed to think that [Lawrence's son] is not a good enough driver. And that , being 43, is too old. Adrian is determined to make a success of himself yet again and wants to work with the best. They gave Adrian a shareholding to get him over from Red Bull and they could conceivably do the same with Max."

Both Alonso and Stroll currently have contracts which cover both the 2025 and 2026 seasons. While it is not unheard of for drivers to be replaced regardless of whatever deals are in place, Aston Martin are unlikely to replace either of their drivers in such a manner, meaning the earliest they will have a vacancy in their driver line-up will be for the 2027 season.

Verstappen has been the subject of many rumours about his future over the last 12 months, especially at the height of the civil war which threatened to consume Red Bull in the early months of the 2024 season. As team principal Horner feuded with his star driver's father Jos and special adviser , Mercedes chief Wolff tried and failed to tempt the Dutchman to switch sides.

But the Austrian has made it clear that he remains in contact with Verstappen's camp, even just on a casual basis. And the same has been true of Aston who are certainly keen on the idea of signing the man who has dominated the sport in recent years, should he become available in the future.

Speaking to Mirror Sport about his future in December, as part of , Verstappen said: "I believe in [Red Bull] and I really hope that we can stay together for a very long time. I don't see that [relationship] becoming worse. Everyone is chatting today. I don't know if you saw before, but my dad is chatting to Christian as well. They're fine. Of course, they have their differences. But you can always talk about it and you can find a middle ground."
