New Delhi: Karun Nair has grabbed Indian cricket fans attention with a tremendous performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the semi-final match against Maharashtra Nair hammered 88 off just 44 balls guiding Vidarbha to victory. His explosive innings included four sixes and three fours showing the dominance he brings to the game. This performance sets him up well as a match-winner ahead of the final against Karnataka.
Although he batted extremely well Nair narrowly failed to complete his fifth successive List A century as with only two overs left he was on 51 when he stepped on the accelerator too hard ending up running out of time. His tournament score now reads 752 runs with just one dismissal so its all been consistent cricket.
Nairs performances have started an on-field discussion as to whether he must be recalled to the Indian team. Fans and ex players including the cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar have begged to differ and have asked for his selection especially in light of the impending 2025 Champions Trophy.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) Sachin wrote Scoring 752 runs in 7 innings with 5 centuries is nothing short of extraordinary “karun126. Performances like these don’t just happen they come from immense focus and hard work. Keep going strong and make every opportunity count!
The mystery of Nairs exclusion from the Indian team remains unsolved. Robin Uthappa has revealed that because of selection politics Nair was overlooked by the national team although he had all the aptitude to be a part of the team. The Indian selection committee will announce the squad for the Champions Trophy soon and perhaps Nairs back-to-back performances will be very crucial in modifying the current structure of the team.
As the final approaches all eyes are on Karun Nair whose performance may not only influence Vidarbhas success but also his future in international cricket.
