January 21, London Chelsea defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 at Stamford Bridge to snap their five-match losing skid and climb to fourth place in the Premier League standings.
The Blues returned to the top four thanks to goals from Marc Cucurella, Noni Madueke, and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Chelsea got off to a good start and gained a well-earned lead halfway through the first half thanks to a calm finish from center back Tosin Adarabioyo.
With the exception of own goals, Tosin became Chelsea’s 13th different Premier League goal scorer this season; only Arsenal (14) had more in 2024–2025.
In the first half, Matt Doherty equalized from a corner, but the Blues took back the lead with two goals before the hour mark.
Five minutes after Trevoh Chalobah seemed to be about to score on his Chelsea comeback, Marc Cucurella put us back ahead with a close-range strike before Noni Madueke added the finishing touch.
Wolves are still in 17th position and just outside the relegation zone on goal differential, while Enzo Maresca’s team has jumped ahead of Newcastle United and Manchester City to fourth place.
“We were at the top for the first forty minutes. We controlled the game and had a great performance. After the game, Chelsea manager Maresca said, “We scored and created many more chances.”
“What has been occurring in the previous five games then occurred once again in the last five minutes. We began to struggle a little once the wolves gained some confidence and achieved their objective. We got off to a good start in the second half, and we took control after the second and third goals,” he said.
