A Delhi man has been taken into custody for robbing three homes to pay for his journey to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, to see the Maha Kumbh. On January 17, the defendant, Arvind alias Bhola, broke into homes in the Rajpuri neighborhood of Dabri and stole jewelry and other costly goods.

Arvind acknowledged the crimes when he was questioned by the burglary cell of the Dwarka Police. He clarified that despite financial obstacles, he and his buddies intended to attend the Maha Kumbh. With his mother working as a domestic worker and his father as a laborer, Arvind hails from a low-income household. It’s hard for his seven siblings to finance these kinds of vacations.

Arvind has already been afoul of the law. He was first taken into custody in 2020, and the police say that 16 theft and burglary complaints have been filed against him. According to investigators, Arvind reportedly resorted to thievery as a way to support his drug addiction and his poverty.

In addition to recovering stolen property, the police are looking into whether he may be involved in any other local crimes.

According to another report, a “slingshot gang” of thieves in Delhi snatched jewelry valued at Rs 1 crore from a major Bharat Nagar traffic crossroads. Two guys on a scooter followed jeweler Vijay Verma, who was on his way home with his son and driver from Karol Bagh. The pillion rider grabbed a bag holding the jewelry and used a slingshot to shatter their vehicle window at a red light close to Lakshmibai College. To find the culprits, police have filed a case and are examining CCTV video. Similar crimes have been committed by the group around Delhi, and attempts are being made to track them down.
