Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor once recognised for his charming chocolate boy persona underwent a stunning transformation for Imtiaz Alis Rockstar. While his performance in the film was highly-appreciated there are lesser known facts about the movie that you might find fascinating. One of them is that the film was apparently shot in reverse. Yes thats right!
Why was Ranbir Kapoors Rockstar shot in reverse?
The climax of Rockstar was shot first as the crew didnt want to break the continuity of Ranbirs hairstyle. Hence it was shot in reverse to keep up with the actors hairstyle. As Ranbir had to transform himself into a rockstar he practiced guitar at A.R. Rahman studio in Chennai for many days studied Kurt Cobain’s biography and resonated himself with Jats.
Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali the film was released in 2011. The film starred Nargis Fakhri as the female lead alongside Kapoor. Rockstar was a success with a budget of Rs 50 crore and global earnings of Rs 110 crore. It ranked among the highest-grossing films of the year.
Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri werent the initial choices for Rockstar
For the unversed Ranbir wasnt the first choice for Rockstar. Imtiaz first approached Shahid for the part but the actor turned it down as he was already swamped with another project Jab We Met at that time. The actor couldnt fit the demanding schedule of Rockstar so he had to say no to the project. Moreover for Nargiss part Imtiaz had actress Kareena Kapoor in his mind. The filmmaker was so impressed by her performance in Jab We Met that he had considered signing her as the heroine in Rockstar. However he couldnt cast her romantically opposite Ranbir because they are first cousins.
Despite everything Rockstar is one of the most loved and appreciated films of Imtiaz Alis career. The films remarkable success truly solidified Ranbir Kapoors unique identity in the industry.
