Mancherial: Members of Swachanda Pouraseva Samstha, a social organisation from this town, said that the proposed 2,400 MW thermal power plant to be set up by NTPC-Ramagundam would pollute the environment of the district centre. They released pamphlets opposing the thermal plant here on Thursday.
Dahegam Umamaheshwar Rao, an environmentalist, expressed concern over pollution that would be caused by the thermal power plant.
He said people would end up with respiratory ailments as the plant would pollute the air. He stated that the air quality was already affected by thermal, ceramic manufacturers, and coal mining.
K Mallaiah, president of the organisation, observed that the town facing issues due to the rise in temperatures caused by coal-fired thermal power plants established by SCCL in Jaipur and NTPC in Ramagundam and ceramic companies. Around 5 crore tonnes of coal was being fired per annum.
Tula Madhusudan Rao, general secretary of the organization, vice-president Pradeep, members Radheshyam, Thirupathi, Ramachandra Reddy, Karre Lachanna and many others were present.
