Shariful Islam Shahzad, who attacked Saif Ali Khan, is a citizen of Bangladesh. The actor was attacked at his house on the night of 16 January. Shahzad is currently in police custody. The investigation into the matter is continuing. His driving license has been seized by the police, from which it has come to light that he is a resident of Bangladesh.
The police already suspected that he might be from Bangladesh, but now his driving license has proved this to be true. On 21 November 2019, Barisal Transport Authority, Bangladesh had issued this driving license to Shariful Islam, which was valid till 21 February 2020. This was a learning license for a two-wheeler. License number is 144. Shariful Islam's father's name is Mohammad Rool Hameed.
To get a two-wheeler driving license, Shariful had given all three examinations – written, oral and practical – at Barisal Transport Authority. After passing these examinations he was issued a permanent driving license. The name of Shariful Islam is written on this license in both Bengali and English languages.
Police formed a special team
Now the police has intensified the investigation of the case. In this context, Mumbai Police has formed a special team. This team will investigate how and through whom Shariful Islam stayed in India, especially Maharashtra and Mumbai and worked here. Besides this, it will also be ascertained from which people he took help in getting his documents prepared.
The accused had stabbed Saif six times with a knife. After that he was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Saif was discharged on January 21 after being admitted in the hospital for five days. 20 teams of Mumbai Police and 15 teams of Crime Branch were formed to catch the attacker. After the arrest of the accused, now the police is trying to get to the bottom of the matter through investigation.
