Kolkata: Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari along with few other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Friday took out a protest rally in Kolkata over the saline death incident at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital.
Demanding immediate resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is also state health minister and health secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam, Adhikari took the family members of the deceased woman to meet Governor CV Ananda Bose.
“Instead of taking action against the company which made the RL saline, the state government had taken action against doctors and had suspended 13 doctors. Doctors are our national asset. We want the list of the patients who all have been given this banned saline. I have heard that those women who are admitted at SSKM hospital are still critical,” said Adhikari.
Later, coming out from Raj Bhavan, Adhikari also mentioned that he had asked the Governor to inquire how RL Saline entered various hospitals despite being blacklisted by the Karnataka Government first and later by the West Bengal government.
“I have also requested the Governor to ensure that enough compensation is given to the family members of the deceased. I have also requested if the Governor can issue a public statement mentioning his views on the incident,” further mentioned Adhikari.
Meanwhile, the state CID had quizzed two out of 12 suspended doctors at Bhabani Bhawan in Kolkata over the saline death incident.
The two doctors identified as Himadri Nayek and Dilip Kumar Paul as allegedly the two doctors despite being ‘On duty’ were not present in the hospital.
Senior doctor Subarna Goswami said that another protest will start if the state government thinks of harassing the doctors.
“The state government should first find out who and how the banned saline got supplied in hospitals and take action against them instead of harassing the doctors,” stated Goswami.
