The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Celebrity Special saw host Jeremy Clarkson utterly stunned in Sunday's episode.
In a thrilling turn of events, Jeremy, 64, greeted Sir Stephen Fry on the programme, who disclosed his intention to donate any winnings to Mind, the mental health charity he has supported since 2011.
Sir Stephen, 67, managed to bag a whopping £250,000 on the ITV game show, once helmed by Chris Tarrant. The former QI mastermind, also known for his acting and comedy, expressed his 'delight' over the win while host Jeremy was left stunned over the incredible achievement.
He said: "The biggest celebrity win since I started [on] this show", dubbing it a "whopping win", after Sir Stephen chose to pocket the £250,000 rather than risk it all.
Faced with a question about the longest gap between an original song and its cover version, Stephen's 'phone a friend' option Richard Osman couldn't provide the needed assistance, reports .
Nonetheless, Sir Stephen was overjoyed, saying: "I am delighted and I am not complaining at all" and remarked on how "it was extremely good fun. The time goes so quickly."
Looking back at his previous appearance on the show in 2005, when he earned £125,000 for charity alongside culinary icon Nigella Lawson, Sir Stephen commended Jeremy's encouragement throughout the game.
Sir Stephen has announced his intention to donate his prize money to Mind, the mental health charity he's championed since 2011.
Touched by the organisation's impact, Sir Stephen remarked: "They have captured the attention of a whole new generation - either as something to support or indeed, to use its facilities and use its guidance on what it has to offer people who are in distress of mind.
"It is deeply worrying so many young people want to hurt themselves, this inner pain they are feeling. Mind is a wonderful resource."
Known for his comedic brilliance alongside Hugh Laurie in shows like A Bit of Fry & Laurie and Jeeves And Wooster, Sir Stephen Fry was honoured with a knighthood in the recent New Year Honours list for his contributions to mental health awareness, environmental causes, and charity.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Celebrity Special continues on Sundays at 8pm on ITV and ITV X.
