UPI Payment Rules: If you have forgotten to carry money in your pocket due to the habit of making UPI payments, then check your purse while leaving the house on February 1. It is possible that on February 1, when you try to make payment at the shop through the UPI app present on your mobile phone, it may fail. Actually, the National Payments Corporation of India, which monitors UPI payments, has given a special instruction to all UPI apps. This instruction has to be implemented by all UPI apps before February 1, 2025. If any app does not follow this instruction, then the transaction through it will be stopped from February 1.
What is NPCI's instruction?
NPCI has given a special instruction to all UPI apps for every transaction. Actually, when any payment is made through UPI apps, a transaction ID is generated, which makes it easy to search for that transaction in the future. NPCI has given instructions regarding this transaction ID. NPCI has said that only alphanumeric characters (letters and numbers) will be used in the transaction ID. If a different transaction ID is generated, the payment will fail.
What will be the effect of this instruction?
After this instruction, those payment apps will have to make changes in their software, which use special characters like @, #, $ in their transaction ID. Apart from Paytm and Phonepe, many UPI apps in India use these special characters in their transaction ID. NPCI has instructed such apps to make changes.
Instructions were issued on January 9
NPCI had informed all UPI Apps about its new rule through a circular on January 9 itself. In the circular, NPCI had asked UPI apps to change the transaction ID to a 35-digit alphanumeric code. Also, make arrangements in your system to prevent duplicate transaction IDs from being generated. This will make it easier to make secure payments and search for transactions. Now, the payments of the apps that have not made changes according to this circular will be stopped from February 1.
