Credit Card Fraud Alert: The number of people using credit cards in the country is increasing. In such a situation, fraud related to credit cards is also increasing. Recently, a mobile shop manager defrauded his former colleague and three others of Rs 75 lakh through a credit card swiping scam.

According to media reports, the main accused Lokesh Shah promised the victims attractive commissions and profits in exchange for buying mobile phones online using their credit cards. However, after swiping a large amount from the credit card, Shah did not pay the bills. Ankit Vasava, the victim of the fraud, filed a complaint. He is a development manager in a private insurance company.

The victim had handed over the credit card details to the accused.
Vasava worked as a salesman in a mobile shop in 2020, where he met Shah. Shah was working as a branch manager at that time. Shah often asked Vasava for his credit card to give good deals to customers and promised to pay the bills. Vasava obtained several credit cards with limits ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. Vasava handed over his credit card details to Shah with the assurance of earning money through mobile deals.

Credit card details are given even after a job change

Then in December 2021, Shah thought of buying mobiles not only for his shop but also for other traders who were offering better commissions. Greedy, Vasava agreed and started receiving mobile shipments at his address. These shipments were delivered by Vasava to customers suggested by Shah. During the entire transaction, Vasava earned a commission of about Rs 300 per mobile set. Even after changing jobs in 2022, Vasava continued to trust Shah with his credit card details and transactions. Till then everything was fine and bills were being paid regularly by Shah. However, in August 2024, Vasava started receiving dues notices from SBI and Kotak Mahindra Bank regarding his credit card bills.

When Shah asked about this, Vasava was assured that the payment would be made. Still, the situation remained unresolved. Vasava checked the status of his 14 credit cards and found that the total outstanding on the cards was more than Rs 41 lakh.
