At times even though a film boasts a star-studded cast its the villain who steals the show with their sinister character and unforgettable dialogues. These lines can often leave such an impact on the audience that they become as iconic as the film itself. There are numerous examples of such moments in cinematic history but today we will focus on this film where the antagonist had just one line and yet that single dialogue made him a household name. The actor is Prem Chopra and the film is Raj Kapoor’s Bobby released in 1973. Prem Chopra by then already a well-known actor was initially hesitant when Raj Kapoor offered him a cameo in the film. The role which had only one line left him fearful about the impact it might have on his career. He was concerned that playing such a small role would hurt his image. In an old interview the actor revealed that he couldn’t say no to Raj Kapoor but the short role made him anxious. However he went ahead and delivered the line: “Prem Naam Hai Mera Prem Chopra”. To his astonishment the line became a massive hit. Audiences loved it and it soon became his signature catchphrase. The dialogue was so memorable that wherever the actor went people would ask him to repeat it. This one-liner not only transformed his career but also had a profound impact on Raj Kapoor. Before Bobby Raj Kapoor was struggling with significant debt from his earlier project Mera Naam Joker. But after the release of Bobby which became a huge commercial success and Raj Kapoors fortunes were reversed. Bobby was a musical romance film directed by Raj Kapoor marking the debut of his son Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. The film became the highest-grossing Indian film of 1973 and one of the top 20 highest-grossing films of the time. The films music composed by the Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo became legendary with songs written by Anand Bakshi and sung by renowned artists like Shailendra Singh. Bobby grossed Rs 11 crores throughout his entire run at the cinemas nationwide. The film was later remade in Persian as Parvaz Dar Ghafas in 1980.
