India is gearing up for a great progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI), which plans to develop its own big language model (LLM), similar to popular systems such as Chatgpt and Deepseek. IT minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that the AI model would be ready within the next 10 months. Speaking at Utkarsh Odisha Conclave, Vaishnav said that the basic work has already been done, and the government is now focusing on creating a system to meet the unique needs of Indian users.
India's AI ambitions support a strong infrastructure, which has crossed its initial target of achieving 10,000 GPU and has now achieved a total of 18,600 GPU. This powerful computing capacity will be important to train the upcoming AI model of the country.
Most of these are high-performance models such as GPU NVIDIA H100, H200 and Mi325. Keeping this in perspective, Deepcic AI was trained with 2,500 GPUs and used by ChatjPT 25,000, while India now has more than 15,000 top-level GPUs, which keeps it in a strong position in the global AI race Are. Vaishnav stressed that this infrastructure would be important in developing the AI model capable of competing with the world's best.
The government has also shared a computing facility that will be accessible to AI startups, developers and researchers. Equipped with 18,000 GPU, this feature is aimed at providing advanced computing resources, allowing younger players to participate in AI development without high cost. Currently, 10,000 GPUs are operational and are going to be added soon. Vaishnav stressed the role of convenience in making AI development more accessible and inclusive for all.
According to India Today, India's AI model is currently being developed by six major teams, the first version is expected to be ready in 4 to 10 months. This model is being prepared keeping in mind the diverse languages and cultures of India. Vaishnav expressed confidence in the project, saying that by improving algorithmic efficiency, India will be able to create a world -class AI model in a short time.
This initiative is an important step towards India's goal of becoming a global leader in AI, reducing dependence on foreign technology. The project also includes the development of the AI Data Center in Odisha, which will increase India's AI capabilities with special attention to privacy and open innovation opportunities in various industries.
