There are several actors and actresses who have made a significant mark in the film industry thanks to their immense talent and brilliant acting skills. However alongside their professional success their personal lives often attracted just as much attention sometimes overshadowing their achievements. One such actress whose career was just as talked about as her controversies is Moushumi Chatterjee. Moushumi Chatterjee made her Bollywood debut in 1967 with Shyam Benegals Balika Badhu. Following this she went on to star in several hit films including Swarag Narak Maang Bharo Sajna Pyaasa Sawan and Jyoti Bane Jwala. Despite her impressive filmography it was her personal life that often garnered as much if not more attention. Moushumi Chatterjee married at the tender age of 15 to Jayanta Mukherjee the son of the renowned music composer and singer Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (also known as Hemant Kumar). The couple has two daughters Payal and Megha Chatterjee. Interestingly Moushumi Chatterjee had a deep admiration for the legendary actor Dev Anand. In one of her candid interviews she revealed her obsession with the superstar calling him one of her favourite actors and admitting to having been madly in love with him. In the 1970s Moushumi Chatterjee became one of the highest-paid actresses in the industry. However by the 1980s her roles started transitioning to supporting characters in both Hindi and Bengali cinema. In several interviews she disclosed how her outspoken nature often led to her replacement in films. She recounted being replaced in major projects like Desh Premee and Barsaat Ki Ek Raat despite having signed contracts. She openly admitted I signed them but then I was out of the picture. Because I never compromise. I had to be yes woman on everything. And I cant do it. Her frankness and unfiltered opinions were well known even causing a public altercation on set with Sunny Deol. During the shooting of Ghayal when the actor repeatedly arrived late Moushumi Chatterjee frustrated by his behaviour confronted him publicly. She even told him not to ruin his father Dharmendras reputation. According to reports Sunny Deol later apologized and the situation was diffused. Moushumi Chatterjee was last seen in the 2015 film Piku alongside Amitabh Bachchan Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan.
