Sheffield stabbing LIVE: Boy, 15, dies after being 'knifed at school gates'

A 15-year-old boy has died of his injuries after being stabbed at a school in Sheffield, police have said.

The force said it responded to reports of a stabbing All Saints Catholic High School on Granville Road in Sheffield this afternoon and remain at the scene.

Classrooms have reportedly been put into lockdown while police and paramedics rushed to the scene. A message sent by the school to parents and guardians read: "Students will be released when police give permission."

A spokesperson for the force said earlier: "Following a stabbing at a school in Sheffield, a teenage boy has been detained by police and our officers are on scene".

Assistant Chief Constable Lindsey Butterfield said the investigation was at an early stage. The victim had "suffered serious injuries" and died a short time later, despite the efforts of the emergency services, she added.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder, Butterfield said. Earlier reports from the police said the suspect was 14.
