Tottenham 'submit £20m bid' for Championship star and Daniel Levy gets immediate response

Esteve joined the club from Montpellier in the summer of 2023, initially on loan. The move was made permanent at the end of last season, and he played for his country in the .

Only last September, he signed a new five-year deal at Turf Moor that runs until the end of the 2028/29 season. It means his club are in a position of strength in terms of demanding a fee, and are unlikely to drop their hardline stance.

Burnley currently lie third in the , and have conceded just nine times all season. In 30 games, the club have already kept 20 clean sheets, and are on a run of seven games without being breached.

Esteve has been deemed crucial to that form. And last week, he spoke about the organisation and defensive unity behind the remarkable record.

"We worked during pre-season defensively and you see the recovery runs of everyone," he said. "The winger, the striker, the midfielder, everyone works on the same thing.

"The attitude of everyone is amazing, it's team work. There is the backline when you talk about it defensively but when you see the game, all the players work on the same side."
