London City Airport was evacuated earlier this evening, with claims that flights had to circle overhead, unable to land.
Flight radar appeared to show several flights being held in a holding pattern over the Thames. Images from the scene showed hoards of passengers stranded outside the airport.
Ben Clatworthy, Transport and Travel Correspondent at The Times, wrote: "London City Airport evacuated and inbound planes in holding pattern over the Thames Estuary.
"Hundreds of passengers being held outside the terminal."
The airport has now welcomed passengers back in, citing an "incident" as the reason for the evacuation. It is not clear what the nature of the incident was and whether flights have been delayed as a result.
A spokesman said: "As a result of an earlier incident the landside area of the airport was briefly evacuated as a precaution. The incident has now been resolved and passengers are re-entering the terminal."
