Unni Mukundan recently rose to fame with his action movie ' Marco ', which garnered widespread success and attention. Despite being a Malayalam film, 'Marco' became widely recognised for its intense, violent content, earning the title of the most violent Indian film ever seen among fans and critics. This recognition also brought it to the attention of Hindi-speaking audiences. However, amidst the praise, he revealed the reason why he doesn’t want Mollywood to follow the pan-Indian trend.

In a conversation with OTTPlay, Unni Mukundan voiced his doubts about the long-term viability of Malayalam cinema if it were to fully embrace the pan-Indian model. The actor, however, made it clear that he does not want his regional film industry to follow this path.

Explaining his stance, Unni argued that focusing solely on creating pan-Indian films would lead to an industry fixated on commercial success, while sidelining the essence of art and storytelling—elements he considers essential to the craft of filmmaking.

“I don’t want the entire industry to follow that trend. It’s not the right way. Making a film to fulfil market requirements means that you are eyeing 50% of the business and only giving your 50% to art,” he stated.

Unni expressed his belief in making films that align with his own vision and creative freedom, without compromising on commercial trends. Reflecting on his experience with Marco, he shared that he prefers to create films he personally enjoys, hoping they resonate as 'Marco' did. He also clarified that the film was never meant for a pan-Indian audience, explaining that they made the film, released it, and let it organically find its audience, considering that the best approach.

On the work front, Unni Mukundan’s Marco is set to stream on OTT from February 14. Additionally, he has two upcoming films in the works: ' Get Set Baby ' and 'Mindiyum Paranjum'.
