A speeding vehicle collided with a scooter carrying three young men, who were hospitalised with critical injuries in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur on Wednesday night. The accident took place on Raipur’s VIP road with eyewitnesses claiming that a Russian woman and a lawyer were behind the wheel.
As per reports, the drunk Russian woman was sitting in the lap of the driver moments before the crash took place. Chaos unfolded afterwards as the Russian woman created a ruckus with onlookers and argued with police officers who had arrived on the scene.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing the woman arguing aggressively with police. Reports claimed the driver, a government lawyer, as well as the woman, were heavily intoxicated after leaving a pub and the woman was sitting on his lap, which restricted his ability to control the vehicle.
Both the Russian woman, reportedly on a tourist visa, and the driver have been taken into custody. Police said the speeding car had “Government of India" written on it. The accident took place within the jurisdiction of the Telibandha police station.
Meanwhile, the three persons injured in the crash were rushed to the Mekahara Hospital for medical treatment, after which they were discharged, according to India Today. The car and the two suspects have been presented before a court by police, who sought their custody for further investigation.
The incident also sparked questions about the misuse of government vehicles and further probe is underway.
