In a recent development related to the January 16 attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence the fingerprints of the accused Shariful have matched those collected from the crime scene. However the final forensic report is still awaited. On Thursday a police official confirmed that two of Khan’s household staff members identified Shariful Islam as the man who broke into the actor’s home and assaulted him. Earlier Mumbai Police conducted an identification parade at Arthur Road Jail in connection with the attack. Last month authorities revealed that a face recognition test had confirmed that the Bangladeshi national arrested for the knife attack matched the suspect seen in CCTV footage from Satguru Sharan Building in Bandra where the actor resides. Police Find Key Evidence Following Shariful Islam’s arrest debates emerged on social media regarding whether the person seen in CCTV footage was the same as the one taken into custody. However in a significant breakthrough Saif Ali Khan’s staff members confirmed the attacker’s identity. Additionally police have gathered substantial evidence linking Shariful to the crime. Bangladeshi National Movement Tracked Investigations revealed that Shariful Islam had entered India from Bangladesh and stayed in various locations across Kolkata before arriving in Mumbai. Authorities also discovered that he was planning to flee back to his native village in Bangladesh but was apprehended in Thane’s Hiranandani Estate. He has been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including attempted murder and unlawful trespassing. The police continue their investigation with further reports and evidence expected in the coming days. Saif Ali Khan Underwent Two Surgeries On the morning of January 16 Shariful allegedly broke into Saif Ali Khan’s 12th-floor apartment and stabbed him six times before fleeing. Three days later he was arrested in the neighboring city of Thane. Following the attack the 54-year-old actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital where he underwent two surgeries. He was discharged from the hospital on January 21.
