One of the greatest names still competing in the current Mumbai Open 2025 WTA 125, which is being held at the storied CCI Club in Mumbai, is former World No. 21 in singles Jil Teichmann. Jil fell down the ranks after struggling over the last two years, but she hopes to return with a championship at Mumbai’s hard courts.

Jil, who has competed at the top level of tennis worldwide and won several WTA and ITF championships, is pleased with the Mumbai Open’s courts and amenities. Regarding the surface, she said, “It is quite sluggish and of high quality. It makes me think of Indian Wells a lot.

“This club and its amenities are excellent. I have nothing to complain about since the staff has done a fantastic job organizing everything and keeping the venue clean,” she said.

Jil, who was performing in Mumbai for the first time in India, was thrilled with the response she received. “I am pleased to find that all of the positive things I have heard about India are accurate. I feel quite welcome here, and the people are so lovely. I’m having a great time in Mumbai.

Having just returned from the Singapore Open, Jil had little time to prepare, but she had a strong start, defeating Arianne Hartono in an exciting three-set match to go to the Round of 16. “My goal is to advance as far as possible in this tournament, break into the top 100, and qualify for the main draws in the Slams,” Jil said, providing a clear summary of her future ambitions.

Jil’s next opponent in her singles quarterfinal round is Shrivalli Bhamidipaty of India on Friday.
