J-K Congress protests against treatment of Indians deported from US, calls it "insult to nation"

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], February 7 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress party staged a protest against the "objectionable treatment" of Indians who illegally migrated to the United States and were deported on a US military aircraft. The party called it an "insult to the nation" and demanded that the Union government seek an apology from the US.JK's Congress President Ravinder Sharma, while attending the protest told ANI, "We are protesting against the objectionable treatment meted out to illegal Indian immigrants by the US. They treated them like terrorists. It is tantamount to insulting the nation."Further demanding that the Indian side should have sent their own commercial aircraft to get the illegal immigrants back, the state congress president urged the centre to lodge a "strong protest" and demand an apology from the US side. "India should have sent its aircraft...The government should lodge a strong protest and the US should apologise," he said.Earlier today, Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh also held a protest condemning the treatment of the deported Indian immigrants.The protest, which took place at Board Office Square in Bhopal, featured Congress members holding handcuffs to express their disapproval of the deportation process. Among those participating in the protest were MP Congress Chief Jitu Patwari, senior Congress leader PC Sharma, and several women Congress leaders.Addressing the reporters, MP Congress chief Patwari said, "Congress has protested across the country and MP Congress protest in all the districts about how Indians were sent back from America handcuffed. This shows that PM Narendra Modi's foreign policy has failed. This is an insult to those people as well as to the country."Himachal Pradesh' Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh called the way Indians were deported a violation of human rights.Singh expressed his discontent over the repatriation of Indians, stating that history has witnessed similar deportations in 2009, 2012, and subsequent years, but the present circumstances are different and more concerning.On February 5, 104 deportees arrived in a US C-17 Globemaster military aircraft in Amritsar, Punjab. This is the farthest destination for such flights under US President Donald Trump's administration. (ANI)
